5 Ways to use essential oils without a diffuser

Posted by Micki Mutch on

There are a lot of affordable and minimal ways to use essential oils without an electronic diffuser. Here are some of my favourites!

1. Add a few drops to an unscented candle. I love buying unscented beeswax candles from a local maker <3

2. I personally love wearing gemstone and lava Diffuser Bracelets. I find them to be a comfortable piece of jewelry and when I apply 1 drop per lava stone, the fragrance can last all day. I learned this by spilling oils on a bracelet one day. More is more!

3. Put a small pot of water on the stove and add 10 - 15 drops of your oils. Turn the burner to its lowest setting for 5 minutes then shut the stove off. Heat can ruin the essential oils so you don’t actually want to heat it much, just excite the water a bit so it boosts the diffusing action. Set an alarm so you don’t forget to turn the burner off.

4. Simply add 10–15 drops of your essential oil to a vessel of water in the room and let it diffuse more slowly.

5. Make your own reed diffuser! Add a neutral-smelling oil like grapeseed or canola to a dark coloured jar or a small vase. Add about 5 ml of essential oil per 1 cup of carrier oil. Then cut the pointy tips off of BBQ skewers and plop them in the vase for an ad-hoc reed diffuser! Just know that if the vase or jar is open to the air, the carrier oils will go rancid after a few weeks. You can also cover the container with waxed paper and fasten with some nice string or twine. Cut a smaller hole in the top to allow the reeds to go through.

You can add more essential oils as you like, and then compost the carrier oils once you feel you're done with them.

How else do you love using oils?!
